Appeal 2026

Marking the start of Archbishop Richard Moth’s tenure in Westminster

The Society’s Council is delighted to undertake an Appeal to raise funds towards His Grace, Archbishop Richard Moth’s vision for Archbishop’s House.

Each new occupant of Archbishop’s House brings a fresh perspective to the House and how it may be used. Archbishop Richard has identified and expressed a desire to make underutilised areas of the building more usable, to support the Church’s mission in the Diocese of Westminster and as a place of meeting of the Catholic ecclesiastical authorities of England and Wales.

In particular, the Upper Library forms part of the enfilade of reception rooms on the first floor of the House. It is currently not possible for the Archbishop and his staff or any other persons to hold meetings in the Upper Library. At present, there is no soundproofing as part of the plate glass screen between this room and the adjoining Clergy House Library; the space required by the Choir School for rehearsals and assemblies on a regular basis.

Working with the Cathedral Architect and Diocesan colleagues, this Appeal will enable the improvement of the Upper Library and the identification of further areas for reasonable development, making the House more usable in these modern times. The Society’s initial target is £25,000. All contributions made will help to deliver His Grace’s long-term vision for Archbishop’s House, in furtherance of the Church’s mission in Westminster and beyond.
